About UsNaturally Bamboo™ is a USA based company that specializes in natural bamboo fiber apparel. Our collection offers comfortable, stylish, and sustainable clothing for the active lifestyle.
Our mission is to produce clothing that is made from sweatshop-free manufacturers and to employ business practices that have the lowest impact on the environment. Naturally Bamboo clothing is manufactured by sewing facilities that abide by fair labor standards. This means that workers are paid a fair living wage, no child labor is allowed and each worker has a safe and healthy working environment.
We are excited about our new partnership with a women's sewing cooperative in Northern Minnesota. While most people in this region earn around $8.00 per hour, our sewers earn an average of $10 - $12 per hour. Do you know how much money a sewer earned making the shirt you are wearing right now? The Organic Consumers Association reports that hourly wages paid by clothing giants such as Wal-Mart, Ralph Lauren, Ann Taylor, Esprit, Liz Claiborne, Kmart, Nike, Adidas, J.C. Penney and others in China's "special economic zones," are as low as 13 cents an hour. The garment industry has been notorious for exploiting workers and while we do not have all the answers, we will continue to do our part in doing business only with those who share our vision and mission.
At Naturally Bamboo we strive to be eco-efficient in our office practices whenever possible. We use minimal packaging with a high-recycled fiber content. All of our paper materials are printed on 100% recycled paper using soy based inks and our t-shirts are printed using water or vegetable based ink.
The dyes used on our products are low-impact reactive dyes meaning that no heavy metals, no chlorine, and no other harmful substances are used in the dye process. While no dye is completely "eco-friendly", we utilize the best available on the market. The cool thing about bamboo is because of it's cellulose structure, it takes less dye to achieve a brilliant color compared to other fibers. If you prefer a non-dyed garment we offer a Simply Natural color.
Naturally Bamboo was started in 2007 by April Femrite of southern Minnesota. A nature-lover and mother of two young boys, April wanted to create a company that was both environmentally friendly and socially responsible. Clothing seemed like a great avenue to promote activism being it is a part of everyday life. After reading a news article about the natural benefits of bamboo fabric, Naturally Bamboo was born. At the present time, Naturally Bamboo products are for sale on our website and through independent retailers.
“Our company strives to leave the lightest environmental footprint on our world and to promote social justice within our industry. We are just in the beginning stages but are working hard to become a leader in ethical business.”
